Welcome to Y6
I hope you had a fantastic summer. We are thrilled to welcome you to your final year of primary school and look forward to an exciting year ahead.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. On these days, children should come to school dressed in their PE kits and prepared for the prevailing weather conditions. We will be aiming to get outside as much as possible, so please ensure children are dressed appropriately for the weather.
Connected Curriculum
Our first topic this year is Britain in WW2, where we will explore the big question:
What was it really like to live through the Second World War?
We will investigate the experiences of people living in Britain during the war, exploring life on the Home Front and considering how the war affected ordinary families and communities.
We will become historians, learning to question evidence, consider different perspectives and think critically about the information we are given. A particular focus will be propaganda and how it was used to influence people's thoughts and feelings. This will provide a fascinating opportunity to develop skills that are just as important today, in a world of social media and fake news.
Our visit to IWM North will provide an exciting opportunity to bring our learning to life and help us discover more about the experiences of those who lived through WW2.
The topic web, available to download below, provides an overview of our learning this half term.
All documents required to support homework can be found in the tab at the top of this page.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We are always happy to help.
We are looking forward to a fantastic final year together!
Kind regards,
Mrs Smith
