Welcome to Year 6!

Miss Hickson, Mrs Gray and Mrs Walker are your teachers in Year 6.

We welcome you to your final year at Bunbury Aldersey Primary school. Whilst we have lots of fun and enjoy our learning, we will also expect you to work hard and try your best. We expect high standards of work and presentation but are always available should you need to ask about anything.

Atlas of Adventure: The Galapagos Islands

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.”

This term, in Year 6, our topic is The Galapagos Islands. We will be learning about the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands whilst focusing on Charles Darwin’s voyage of discovery, Ecuador’s culture, geography and history. In addition to this we will look generally at the area of South America. This will form part of the whole school topic based on the book entitled ‘Atlas of Adventures’ and each class will choose to focus on an area of the world.

Our Autumn term topic web below provides an overview of what we will be learning across all areas of the curriculum.

We will also be looking at specific Rights of the Child which link to our topic:

Article 14: Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights. Governments must respect the rights and responsibilities of parents to guide their child as they grow up.

Article 30: Every child has the right to learn and use the language, customs and religion of their family, whether or not these are shared by the majority of the people in the country where they live.

Article 32: Governments must protect children from economic exploitation and work that is dangerous or might harm their health, development or education. Governments must set a minimum age for children to work and ensure that work conditions are safe and appropriate.

Article 35: Governments must protect children from being abducted, sold or moved illegally to a different place in or outside their country for the purpose of exploitation.

Our PE lessons are timetabled for Wednesdays and Fridays. However, we ask that you always have your labelled PE kit in school as some weeks these days may differ.

I am looking forward to making your final year at Bunbury an exciting and unforgettable one!

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me!
