Happy New Year, we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families. Please can I say a huge thank you for all my presents and cards. We really appreciate your kind words and gifts.

It will Image result for unicefbe lovely to see you all on TUESDAY 5th January, we will be spending the day looking at the UNICEF's Childrens Rights, in particular Article 24 where it states all children have the right to nutritious food. We will start the day with KAGAN exercises which I know you are all brilliant at. We will talk about our favourite food and what children eat in different countries around the world. After that we will be talking about what a nutritious diet is. The children will be set a homework task to write their own food diary for a week! Our 'Rights of a child' Day will continue onto Wednesday (as we have P.E on Tuesday) where we look at how children in other parts of the world do not have a lot of food. Finally, the children will design their own 'every child has the right to food' poster.

In addition, the children will be writing a recount of their Christmas holidays and writing their new years resolutions (Friday). Have a think of some this week! It can be about school or home!

For the rest of the school year we will be focussing our learning through the book 'The Magic Train Ride' by Sally Crabtree. In this book, the train visits lots of different places including outer space, our next topic! We be reading lots of Oliver Jeffers books and speaking to Tim Peake who is at the International Space Station! We will be writing recounts, postcards and even visiting some planets in our class rocket! (See topic web for more info)

Homework is slightly different this term. The children will continue to get phonics and mathletics homework (once a week now the nativity has finished!) but in addition they will get to choose their own challenges. Have a look at the Pick n Mix homework on the class page files. There are weekly challenges (reading, phonics, mathletics)  and half termly- challenges which are due in after Feb half term.

We also have a new student joining us for this term, Miss Sophie Abrams. She is very excited to join a team Year 1!

Enjoy your last few days of the holiday, get lots of rest, you are going to need all your energy for this next term!!!

I can't wait to see you fairytale houses you have made! Some of you have sent me pictures and they look fantastic!

See you soon
