Y6 week beginning 1 2 16

Hello everyone

As you know we were all really proud of your hard work and impecccable behaviour last week.

This week, in Maths, we continued our work with capacity which involved practical work -estimating, reading scales and measuring accurately. We completed a table of results and solved one and two step problems . We converted ml to litres ,litres to pints and pints to litres. We also continued with our work on Standard multiplication and looked further at Roman numerals and carried out a series of investigations linked to them. We continued to work on long multiplication to ensure we were  confident about the algorithm. Some of us worked on using it to solve problems - which really made them think - especially when they were asked to explain how they had solved it. In our English we worked on adverbial phrases and fronted adverbials using our text, 'The Man who walked between the towers' as inspiration. This week we move onto clauses and phrases and rehearsing the long division algorithm.

For our Big Write we planned and wrote a diary in role and looked at the use of prepositions and how they can be placed in sentences for varying effects.

You did well with your instructions on how to survive blizzard conditions after having searched on the internet and looked at lots of images of North America. I was also really pleased with your RE work based on Temptation and Betrayal. We had some really interesting debates.

Next week Mrs Spencer is in for 2 days and you will have a chance to combine your Science learning of electricity with a small DT project based on a New York street scene! Remember to start collecting bits and pieces for your project and start discussing with your partner as to what you will need to do. You will have a chance to plan on Tuesday with Mrs Spencer. Have fun, I can't wait to see it when I come in on Thursday.
