Y6 travel back in time...

Today Y6 travelled back in time to World War II during their visit to Stockport Air Raid Shelters! The whole day was spent in role with the children - evacuees - being told they were going to be taken to the town hall at the end of the day to be billeted and then live with their new families.
The first half of the day was spent with Warden Barker and Nurse Campbell who took us around the air raid shelters which were used during the war. We also sang many famous songs sung in the war - their favourite being the one about Hitler (I'm sure they will give you a rendition at home!!)
After some lunch, we made our way to the workshops where we learnt all about 'make do and mend' and the air raid precautions. The children were also given traditional names used during the war. We had a Derek, Mabel, Shirley, George, Trevor and Margaret, among others!
