Y4 week beginning 9.11.15

Date: 7th Nov 2015 @ 12:55pm

Hello all,

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain hammering down, so thought I would catch up on my paper work whilst the weather was bad. I have nearly finished and I can see sunshine. I need to go and brush up leaves in the garden, its a job that never seems to end as we have lots of trees in our garden but also around us too.

Next week we are going to use ICT to write our newspaper articles just like a journalist would do. We will learn how to make space for a headline and byline and then how to organise our work into columns. Text boxes will be added with space for a caption and if time we will learn how to upload a picture into our box that is suitable for our report. Later on in the week we will do a "Big Write" using all our reporting skills to do so, you will write your own steps to success before this lesson so you can see what a good report must contain.

Maths work will concentrate on recapping unit fractions ie 1/2 or 1/6; identifying equivalent fractions using a fraction wall; reducing a fraction to its simplest form and counting in fractions. Keep up with your tables and the associated division facts, this really helps with fractions. I will bring in sweets and biscuits to help show this, we will learn by doing and you never know you might get to eat something! Would you prefer to eat 1/2 of a biscuit or 1/6 of a biscuit? Answer this next week.

We have Parents Evenings on Tuesday 10th November and Thursday 12th November. We look forward to meeting all of your parents and sharing with them your work. You should all be very proud of your achievements and we hope they will be too.

Thank you for all your extended homework, this will all be displayed as promised outside the classroom. Some of you have gone to so much trouble and must have learned a lot of new information, special well dones must go to Daniel Hazeldine and Elie Roots who have both produced an excellent powerpoint on packed lunches for different groups of people including recipes, safety tips, costings etc.

Keep wearing your poppy, it is Remembrance Day on the 11th of November.

Have a great weekend.

Love Mrs.W and Mrs.S
