Y4 week beginning 8.2.16

Date: 6th Feb 2016 @ 1:59pm

Hi Year 4

Can you believe it is the last week before we break up for our February half term holiday, a break that you all thoroughly deserve. However it doesn't mean we will be slacking this week!

On Wednesday will be our highly anticipated sharing of Takeaway homework and I know that you have all been working very hard on your models, writing, posters etc. We will take a photograph of all of them and post them on the blog so your parents can see all the hard work that Y4 have put in to this.

On Monday we will do a short maths assessment so that Mrs. Parsons and I can see what you have understood, what you may still be having a few difficulties with, which will then inform our planning and your targets for next half term. This is absolutely nothing to worry about. Coding and finishing The Winters Child will continue on Monday afternoon. What questions will have been answered from finishing the book and have you any further questions? I think you might.

On Tuesday we will revisit subtraction using both expanded and compact methods and using Frog to check our answers. We all have a favourite method to use and it doesn't matter which as long as you are solving the problems successfully. In the afternoons Lemon Curd will be on the menu, actually you will be cooking it and taking a sample home. I have bought lots of small tippers but would like these back after you have consumed the lemon curd so that we can use them again for other recipes. We will be preparing for our next Big Write on Wednesday using the Winters Child as our stimulus. You will be writing 6 paragraphs retelling the story and you will have an hour to do this. This is something I know you enjoy having the time to write an extended piece of work. Bring your slippers on Wednesday if you like and I will provide the biscuits.

Hopefully we will get chance to finish all our portraits so that I can change the display, and then I will take photos to put on our blog. I know your parents and friends will be very impressed, I most certainly am.

At the end of the week you will be looking at the 7x table and how to remember the tricky ones. Can you remember the mnemonic for 8x8=64 I ate and ate until I was sick on the floor!. Mrs Parsons has just received letters from children in Japan who would like you to become pen pals. You will be writing letters to them which will be sent on Friday. I think you will enjoy reading letters from them. Luckily we do not need to reply in Japanese!

Have a great weekend, the weather is due to be better tomorrow (Sunday), I really hope so because I am getting quite fed up of this rain.

Love Mrs. W and Mrs. P x
