Y4 week beginning 11.1.16

Date: 10th Jan 2016 @ 12:04pm

The cold weather is certainly coming and it has been lovely to see a blue sky today. Hopefully we will get some snow this week which will help us to write our winter settings and poetry.

In English we will continue with our winter settings  using our extended noun phrases, fronted adverbials, similes and alliteration. We will be looking at using conjunctions this week to help our ideas flow and recapping on different sentences, simple, compound and complex. Can you remember which is which?

In maths we will continue with the grid method of multiplication before moving on to division. We will use numicon to help us with this. Here is a challenge if you have numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5 and you had to make a sum where you multiply a 3-digit number by a 1 digit number what would the largest answer that you could make and the smallest. How do you know? How can you prove this?

We will complete our Tudor monarch booklets whilst we have the laptops on Monday afternoon and also start to look at our mini DT project making a Tudor pouch. Following Hans Holbeins examples we will become artists that have been employed to paint a Royal. Which Tudor monarch would you like to paint and why? First we will learn about the structure of the face, and proportions of the face. It can be quite a surprise where an eye is actually situated on a face!

I believe you all had an email about electricity on Friday. Who was it from and how can Y4 help? Have you any ideas yet?

Dont forget to be doing a little of your takeaway homework each week, don't leave it to the last minute (Ben!). Your choices are on the Y4 class page, if you want a paper copy please ask.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Love Mrs. W and Mrs. P
