Y2 News & Information 13.2.17

Week Beginning 13th February 2017

The end of another busy half term this Friday. Don’t forget Takeaway Homework sharing day on Wednesday and the disco on Thursday. Look out for some blog pictures at the end of the week. Have a lovely half term break.

In English this week we are continuing our unit of work based Jack and The Baked Beanstalk We will be learning write using different tense. We will be writing descriptively in the first person. In all activities we focusing on sentence types, consistent use of punctuation and presentation skills.

In Mathematics we will be completing work in fractions.

Theme/Study
We will continue with work on the theme “What Wonderful World” looking at the world from a geographical perspective and finding out about different kinds of homes. In Science we are starting to look at Living Things and Different Habitats.

In phonics/spelling the focus is on adding es to verbs and nouns ending in y. e.g. baby, babies We continue in all lessons to develop and reinforce the use of different spelling strategies.

Our handwriting focus is on the following letters – letters joining at the top o w v and writing e, z, x

In RE we continue with the unit of work is on the Christian Concept: Kingdom of God with the theme of Jesus’ Teaching. The key question will be Why did Jesus teach his disciples to pray the Lord’s Prayer; ‘Your Kingdom Come?’

Our PE days are Monday (first lesson) and Wednesday (last lesson).

Reading Books
The children are welcome to change their reading book as often as they like but I would ask that you sign the reading record book when they have read to you or to themselves at home.
We have a reading session every day where the children take part in a variety of reading activities one of which includes Guided Reading with me. Here we focus on using the skills needed to decode words as well as developing comprehension skills.
