Week Beginning 12th June 2017

Welcome back after half term. I hope you those of you who came to see the ‘Sea of Dreams’ exhibition enjoyed it. How lucky we were to complete Sport’s Day last week. Another busy week ahead of with a visit by Bishop Libby on Tuesday and a service at Church on Thursday with The Haberdashers.

In English we have started a new text called ‘Troll Swap’ written by Leigh Hodgkinson. We will be planning and writing a narrative using the story structure of Troll Swap. We will

  • Discuss and predict a story using images
  • Write a comparative description of the characters.
  • Describe their own character using expanded noun phrases and superlatives.
  • Plan and write letters and diary entries focussing on tense and a variety of sentence types.
  • Plan and create a poster using a variety of sentence types.

In Mathematics we are looking at Measurement with a focus on problem solving involving capacity and temperature.

Our new theme is Paws, Claws and Whisker to link to our Troll Swap text. We will also be focusing on Bears. I will post a curriculum map asap.

We have a reading session every day where the children take part in a variety of reading activities one of which includes Guided with me. Here we focus on using the skills needed to decode words as well as developing comprehension skills.

This term all reading levels and book choice will be reviewed following last term’s assessments.
