Week Beginning 4th December 2017

A very Christmassy Weekend in my home as we put up our Christmas Tree and decorations. I even managed some Christmas shopping.

This week will be another busy one at school with the Theatre Visit on Wednesday, Christmas Nativity rehearsals and the Christmas Fair on Friday. In case you didn’t receive it or haven’t seen it yet I have posted here the text of an email sent last week about Y2 costumes.

Y2 Christmas Nativity Role
Y2 will be dressed as Cowboys and Cowgirls as part of the Reception, Y1 and Y2 Nativity "Prickly Hay'. Please could they bring in some suitable Country and Western style clothes for this role e.g. jeans, denim skirts, checked shirt, hats, boots etc. Clothes need to be in school by Tuesday 12th December. Please let me know if you need any help with this.

In English we will be using two Russian Christmas stories foe writing activities.

In Mathematics our focus continues to be subtraction.

Maths Bingo

In our topic work we will be covering the Science focus of our topic work looking at Everyday Materials.

Our handwriting focus is on the following letters - letters joining at the top o v w and the others group of e x z.

In phonics/spelling the focus is this week is silent letters. We also continue to reinforce Long Vowel Homophones, using a GPC (grapheme phoneme correspondence) chart and other strategies for learning tricky words.

In RE our unit of work is called Belonging To A Church. The key question of the unit is - How do we know someone belongs to a Christian Community? Nearer to Christmas Y2 also look at a unit of work called ‘Kingdom of God’ and the concept incarnation. The key questions of this unit are – What does the visit of the Magi tell Christians about Jesus?, Why is Jesus considered a King by Christians?

Our PE days are Monday am (Ms Charlesworth) and Wednesday am (Sports’ Coaches)

Reading Books
The children are welcome to change their reading book as often as they like but I would ask that you sign the reading record book when they have completed a book.

Mrs King and I are currently assessing all the children’s reading again using our benchmarking system. Please bear with us as it does take time but is a thorough assessment of the level the children are reading at.

Homework – For mathematics homework please use Mathletics. If you haven’t access to a computer at home let me know and I will arrange some extra lunchtime sessions for your child. We try to use Mathletics at school too in class at least once a week.
Please send homework books in on a Monday. I will try to mark the spellings and return the books with new spelling homework on a Tuesday.
