Week Beginning 19th December 2016

What a busy time we all had last week! On Monday and Tuesday we will return to our normal routine of lessons with the exception on Tuesday morning when we watch the KS2 rehearsal. On Wednesday we will share our Take Away homework with the rest of the school and have our Christmas party in the afternoon.

I will be sorting out all the children’s reading books this week following end of term reading assessments.

In English we are retelling a Christmas Story from Russia called ‘Papa Panov’s Special Christmas.’ It is a lovey story about helping others. You can watch a cartoon version of it here.

In Mathematics we are now continuing with work on Statistics. At Y2 pupils are taught to

  • interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams and simple tables
  • ask and answer simple questions by counting the number of objects in each category and sorting the categories by quantity
  • ask and answer questions about totalling and comparing categorical data.

Our handwriting focus is on the following letters – o v w x z e

In phonics/spelling the focus is the ‘i’ sound spelt ‘ey’ and further work on homophones. We continue in all lessons to develop and reinforce the use of different spelling strategies.

In RE our unit of work is ‘Kingdom of God’ with concept Incarnation. The key questions of the unit are – What does the visit of the Magi tell Christians about Jesus?, Why is Jesus considered a King by Christians?

Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.

Reading Books
The children are welcome to change their reading book as often as they like but I would ask that you sign the reading record book when they have read to you or to themselves at home.
