Week Beginning 15th January 2018

Happy New Year. Thank you for all your lovely gifts, cards and messages at the end of last term.

Miss Porter is now supporting Y2 as their Teaching Assistant. I have not worked alongside Miss Porter in a class before so I am really looking forward to it.

Last week we started back to school with another Well Being Day. Y2 loved the online yoga so here is the link to the resources we used.

In English we have been finishing non-chronological report writing linked to Science work on Materials. We will be starting our new text at some point this week. I won’t write anything on here as some activities linked to the introduction need an element of surprise.

In Mathematics our focus is Money. Alongside this we are learning times tables. We have enjoyed using the following Number Jacks resources to help with this.

Don’t forget this resource too to help with learning number facts.

Maths Bingo

Please look out for our new topic web which will be posted on the class webpage asap.

Our handwriting focus is on the following letters - the r group of letters r n m h b k

In phonics/spelling the focus is this week is contractions and the /l/ or /əl/ sound spelt ‘le’ at the end of words and following a consonant. We also continue to reinforce Long Vowel Homophones, using a GPC for learning tricky words.

In RE our new unit of work is on the Christian Concept: Kingdom of God with the theme of Jesus’ Teaching. The key question will be Why did Jesus teach his disciples to pray the Lord’s Prayer; ‘Your Kingdom Come?’

Reading Books
The children are welcome to change their reading book as often as they like but I would ask that you sign the reading record book when they have completed a book at home with you.

Miss Porter and I each half term will continue to assess all the children’s reading again using our benchmarking system. Please bear with us as it does take time but is a thorough assessment of the level the children are reading at.

Our PE days are Monday am (Ms Charlesworth) and Wednesday am (Sports’ Coaches)
