Week Beginning 12th December 2016

Well done to the Y1 and Y2 who completed in the althletics tournament at Tarporley lasy week and came first. You can read all about it on Mrs Waddington's blog.

A very busy week ahead of us with three Nativity performances, the Christmas Jumper Day and the Christmas Fair.

Y2 Nativity Role
Y2 will be performing `The Sheep Shimmy' as part of the Reception, Y1 and Y2 Nativity. Please could they bring in some plain white or plain dark clothing for their costumes. The dark clothing can be black, navy blue or brown. Any t-shirts/tops with a logo can sometimes be turned inside out.
We will be using face paint. If I don't hear from you I will presume it is ok for your child to have face paint on. Clothes need to be in school by Monday 12th December. Please let me know you need any help with this.

In English we are continuing to use the text ‘The Rainbow Bird’. This week we are innovating with the story by story mapping the sequence and then changing one of the characters.

In Mathematics we are now working on Statistics. At Y2 pupils are taught to

  • interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams and simple tables
  • ask and answer simple questions by counting the number of objects in each category and sorting the categories by quantity
  • ask and answer questions about totalling and comparing categorical data.

Our handwriting focus is on the following letters – o v w x z e

In phonics/spelling the focus is the ‘i’ sound spelt ‘ey’ and further work on homophones. We continue in all lessons to develop and reinforce the use of different spelling strategies.

In RE our unit of work is ‘Kingdom of God’ with concept Incarnation. The key questions of the unit are – What does the visit of the Magi tell Christians about Jesus?, Why is Jesus considered a King by Christians?

In Science we are continuing to look at Materials.

Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.

Reading Books
The children are welcome to change their reading book as often as they like but I would ask that you sign the reading record book when they have read to you or to themselves at home.
