Another wonderful but rainy week in Year 1 has come to an end!

On Monday we finished off our non-fiction dinosaur booklets that are jam-packed with interesting information about dinosaurs such as Troodon, Iguanodon, Ichthyosaurus and Citipati! Parents are invited to come to our ‘Book and a Biscuit’ afternoon on Thursday next week to have a chance to read them and learn some fantastic facts.

We also started our new topic of Brilliant Brazil when Dr Antonio Rodrigues, a Brazilian conservationist, sent us some exciting photographs of Rio, Carnaval and the Amazon rainforest. We received a special delivery on Wednesday morning when he sent us our new book for English, ‘We’re Roaming in the Rainforest’, and we enjoyed sorting all of the animals found within it during our Science lesson.

After a journey through the rainforest, Year 1 used their senses to describe the experience in their Big Writes. These were all so amazing and we look forward to doing some more work about ‘We’re Roaming in the Rainforest’ next week in our English lessons.

In Music we recreated our own rainforest thunderstorms using body percussion, our voices and a range of instruments. We also created some rainforest Art for our roleplay area that is now filled with spiral snakes, origami butterflies and tropical flowers.

Next week in English we will be learning our new book off by heart and using drama and story mapping to help us. We will also be studying capacity in Maths and the Creation Story in RE.

Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday!
