Stream stomping and willow fish

Date: 5th Jul 2016 @ 5:50pm

After another huge lunch we  went on a search for clean, drinkable water. Armed with nets we walked to a stream and stood in pairs. Whilst one did the twist in the water the other stood down stream with the net and caught any creatures. We looked at these carefully using an identification key. We found caddies fly larvae, damsel fly larvae, fresh water shrimps and leeches. Looking at the ratings they were given from 1-10 told us how clean the water was. Ours ranged from 3-7 telling us they were creatures who lived in fairly dirty water. Decision was made not to drink this unless we boiled it for a few hours!

When we got back to camp we settled down to make willow weaved fish. This was very therapeutic and a calming exercise. They are not all quite complete but we can bring some willow back to school to do so. We are back in the canteen as I type eating yet again. Glad we climbed this morning I don't think Mr. Cole and I would have managed to haul ourselves up to the top after 3 huge meals!
