Reception News Week beginning 9 1 17

Date: 8th Jan 2017 @ 1:34pm

Welcome back to school. I hope the children are raring to go. I am...... Christmas has been so busy with family it will be strange when my husband goes back to work and I am alone in the evenings. I will have plenty of time to do lots of school work! This term we are starting with the topic of Winter and looking at cold places in the world and who lives there. We might even talk about Shackleton! The roleplay area is set up and ready to go. It could be an ice palace or a scientific research station! We always follow the children's interests as well so there could be lots of sub topics going on. During the first week the whole school is looking at children's rights. Reception are looking at a right to play linked to different children across the world, but first we are thinking about children's "needs and wants" family, food, water and a home. What is the difference between a need and a want? It should be interesting. As always we will be focussing on phonics. The children are blending, but some need more practise. So there will be lots of reading this term.

On our first day back we will be talking about our holidays and writing about them. The children always want to tell us their news. In number we will be focussing on counting and ordering numbers and playing some traditional games.

Thankyou so much for our Christmas treats at the end of term. It was very generous of you and not expected. I love my job especially the children.
