Reception News week beginning 7 11 16

Welcome back to a very busy Autumn term 2! I hope everyone has recharged their batteries and is ready to go. This half term we are looking at Day and Night and Space. The boys started building rockets and talking about space so it was the obvious thing to do. We will then also go wherever the children want to go with their learning. This group of children love to be outdoors and seem to use the water tray whatever the weather.

This week we are going to start by writing about the children's half term together with some firework pictures and labels. We will also be doing guided reading and independent reading and of course phonics. Our focus author is Jill Murphy and the text that we are staring with is Whatever Next. In number we start with addition and counting on, more than, less than and money. We are making a shoe shop. Our number is always differentiated to the individual child . We are also going to have a number challenge table with questions to encourage deeper thinking. There are always number activities out. I put out a chess board with tiny bears on. It was amazing how children made up their own games.

Please could you make sure that the children always have a warm coat and waterproof at school togther with hats and gloves.The children go out whatever the weather! I always suggest that gloves are put onto elastic that tucks through their sleeves so that they don't lose them. Hats and gloves need labelling.

Christmas will soon be here so the children will be very busy. Mrs Woodhouse starts to work with us all the week after next. You will all meet her at parents' evening. I am really looking forward to it. She is a lovely person the children already like her.
