Reception News week beginning 6 2 17

Date: 5th Feb 2017 @ 5:05pm

We are all working really hard. The children are enjoying the book Arctic Explorer. It has lots of different aspects that we can focus on in class. This week we are going to talk about newspapers, as the little boy reads a report to say that his Dad is missing in the Arctic. Some of the boys have been making an office out of the wooden bricks and collecting things that they would like to have in a small wooden box. With this in mind we are going to make our own reporters office in the classroom. On Monday we are going to go down to the school office in groups to see what we need and then write a list. Once this has been done we will start to put things in. The children will also be packing a suitcase and recording what they would need to take to a cold country. There will also be lots of other writing opportunities.

We are also looking at shape space and measure. We had fun with the capacity tray and rice last week and will continue with shape and patterns this week. We will also be looking at the language of size "taller, shorter" etc.

The children have loved taking Poppy and Pingu home. I know its probably the last thing that you want, but it really encourages their writing.

Many thanks
