reception News week beginning 23 1 17

Date: 22nd Jan 2017 @ 1:14pm

We have had a lovely week looking for Daddy penguin who had been lost. We created posters that we put up in school. We read the book "Lost and Found" together and saw the lovely DVD. We painted snowy scenes. On the number table we counted ice and talked about where Polar Bears live. There are Polar bears on the small roleplay table and penguins in the water tray. `I am sure if you ask your child they know where both live . Whether they understand why the north pole and south pole are so cold is probably a different matter, but I have talked about it. On Friday the children had a treasure hunt to find Daddy penguin, they found him. There was great excitement!

This week we are continuing to to look at the story "Lost and Found" , creating a story map, making up new stories in the water tray and making models. In number we are concentrating on more than and less than. We played a card game which the children enjoyed. This week they are going to play it independently. We will also be looking at different ways of making 5 10 and ordering numbers. At the end of the week we are hopefully  going to do a "Big Write."

We have been really concentrating on reading and writing I am hoping that you will begin to see the difference.

I am going to be sending a toy penguin home nightly with a writing book. In it anything can be written about its adventures. It could simply say "Pingu" had tea with me. "Poppy" went to the park with me. I would like them to have a go at writing themselves and draw a picture, photos can be put in, but please don't feel under pressure. The book needs to be returned the next morning. You might be lucky enough to have Poppy or Pingu for a weekend and so there is an opportunity for a little more writing.
