Reception News week beginning 17 10 16

Date: 16th Oct 2016 @ 4:56pm

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I went to Startford to see King Lear. Anthony Sher was Lear. He must be one of the great actors of our time. The amount that he had to learn!

Thankyou for coming to the meeting. It was a very good turnout.

Hopefully you will have all looked at the reading books and the children are ready for new ones. Our local libraries are also very good for sourcing books as reading to a child is one of the most important things we can do. We are going to start guided reading this week! Guided reading is when a group of children read a text they have not seen before and I ask them questions and we look at pictures together. We will also be reading individually so the weeks are soon going to be very busy.

In number there will be lots of problem solving and questioning linked to the Three Bears and shape. The children will be going for shape walks and talking about a shape's property.

We are going to be making porridge and will be painting a still life based on autumn fruits.

At the start of term our huge focus is on speaking and listening. I am very grateful to you for filling in their diaries as it gives the children lots to write and talk about. With some children I will be moving their writing on and asking them to write the sounds that they can hear. At the end of the week we are going to have a "Big Write" where everyone writes about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It should be interesting!
