Year 1 w/b 14.09.15

Date: 20th Sep 2015 @ 9:03am

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the delay in the blog. I typed it all out and for some reason it didnt save!

The children have had a busy few weeks in year 1! They are settling into year 1 brilliantly!

Most importantly, we received a letter from someone (or something?) called Maggie who needed our help. There was a monster in the enchanted Wood and she needed the help of the woodland detectives to find this creature. The only problem was she didnt know what the monster was. The children decided the Enchanted Wood was full of things from story books and thought that there would people like Hansel and Gretel and Red Riding Hood living in there...even Batman!

The children wrote back (using their phonic cards) to Maggie informing her of who they thought the monster was and we left the letters beneath the entrance to the enchanted forest before assembly. When they returned...the letters were gone!

Since then they have received another letter. The monster was the Gruffalo but unfortunately it has escaped from the Enchanted Woods into our world. Year 1 decided the whole school needed to know that there was a gruffalo on the loose and wrote wanted posters, practising saying a sentence out loud before writing it. We are waiting to see whether the Gruffalo has been spotted!

In the meantime, the children will be sequencing the story of the Gruffalo to make sure there are no more nasty surprises and performing part of it with some musical instuments. They will also be writing interview questions for Maggie incase she comes to visit.

This week in Maths the children have been finding different ways of making different totals. They played games on the computer, maths jigsaw puzzles and number hunts! Next week its all about doubles, halves and finding 1 more/less than a number. We are also going to go outside and measure trees and leaves.

In R.E we are learning about Noah's Ark and the importance of promises. They children used drama to retell the story of Noah building the ark. This week they are using musical instruments to retell the story using different dynamics and tempo.

If you have any shoes boxes (empty!) can we please have them? The children are going to be making their own woodland diorama!

THANKS

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
