Year 1 w/b 05.10.15

Date: 11th Oct 2015 @ 8:47am

Year 1 have had a wonderful time this week! We visited Bickley Hall Farm on Monday morning and created boggarts in our school wood in the afternoon.( See seperate blog)

On Thursday we had a visit from the national road safety programme. The children had lots of fun and the highlight was sitting in the lorry, especially for Mrs Moxley!

Inbetween all this excitement, the children wrote up their recounts of the school trip and tried to use sentence openers. They researched a woodland creature in pairs using the internet and some children started writing their autumn acrostic poem.  They also independently described their Boggart and are going to write instructions for reception to make theirs!

In maths, they have been learning to find more and less through lots of exciting problem solving games, practising place value and estimating. (Can you remember how many conkers Oliver had in his bag?)

Mindfulness: After lunch this week, we have been doing some autumn mindfulness colouring in whilst listening to Einaudi. Concentrating on the colouring creates a state of peace and the repetitive action of colouring in focuses the brain. It is used to enhance a peaceful sense of well-being whilst encouraging concentration skills and a sense of pride in thier work. It also helps with fine motor skills and handwriting. The children enjoy this time and really calm down and relaxed after a energetic playtime.

Phonics: this week the children have been learning the 'or' sound (or au aw) Practise these sounds by playing Obb and Bob on phonics play.

homework: This week I have sent out a homework letter (I will attach it to the blog) It is a project they can do as a family and is due in after half term. It can be presented any way the children want to eg. powerpoint, big poster in the shape of their animal... anything! Ideally it should include pictures and text (typed or by hand). I can not wait to see them after half term. On Tuesday 22nd the children will present these to the rest of the class.

MATHLETICS: I look forward to seeing any Bronze awards on Monday!

Events: Year 1 cross-country- 19th October at Tarporley High School. ALL children are welcome to attend the first Year 1/2 cross country of the year. Its a great chance for the children to represent their school and have fun at the same time. It is 1 lap of Tarporley High school field. Our 5 minute run in the morning has come in handy!!
