Y6 week beginning 12 10 15

Date: 9th Oct 2015 @ 4:34pm

What a great afternoon we had today. Have a look at the Stone Age blog to see some pictures and post to say what you think.

Fantastic work is happening with Mathletics...George is our first GOLD award winner so well done to him.

In Maths this week, we have been looking at fractions.

We have converted fractions out of 10, 100 and 1000 into decimals and vice versa
eg 94/100 = 0.94
0.207 = 207/1000

We have also used the symbols < > to compare fractions with different (but related) denominators.
Eg what symbol goes between these two fractions?
4/5     7/10
To answer this, we looked at changing 4/5 into an equivalent fraction that has a denominator of 10.
4/5  = 8/10
Therefore 4/5 > 7/10

I have assigned you some fractions activities on Mathletics. Enjoy!

We have done some work on time and also finding the perimeter and area of shapes. How do you think you got on?

We need you to be thinking about a mini Stone Age project to complete between now and the end of half term. Some people are making caves or roundhouses and others are doing a quiz or a fact file. You could present your work as a PowerPoint or a Pic collage. There are lots of options...perhaps you could do some cooking to share with the class? How about making a short film or an advert for why it is better to live in the Iron Age than the Mesolithic era? So you have lots to think about.  Let me know on the blog what you are going to do. What do you think about this idea? You could make a 'henge' out of food too!
