Y4 week beginning 2.11.15

Hi everyone, I'm so sorry that this is late and I have no excuse except that I completely forgot to do it! 

It was lovely to see you all today after your holiday especially as so many of you came armed with your fantastic homework. You will each be given some time to present your work to the rest of the class over this half term. Meanwhile your work will be displayed in the corridor.

Today we have looked at simple and compound sentences and how to use a conjunction to join two simple sentences together to make a compound sentence, this will be your homework to use conjunctions but also to spell them correctly! Mr. Cole will teach the rest of the English lessons this week where you will learn how to write a newspaper report. Next week you will write a report in your " Big Write"

We are continuing with subtraction and written methods to solve them. We are using expanded decomposition and you are all managing this very well. When might we need to use this method in real life? Wait and see. After this we will look at how to halve and double numbers using our partitioning skills before moving onto fractions.

We will be making pottery Mayan pots using clay. This is not as simple as it sounds especially if we want to add handles or designs. We need to make a special type of clay glue called slip and ensure the clay does not dry out whilst we are working on it. On Wednesday you will be going to a Mayan market to trade your excess goods for something you need. Remember the Mayans did not use money but bartered for goods. What objects were worth a lot to the Mayans, what items were worth little?

Make sure your parents sign the form to let us know what time they would like to see us on Parents Evening next Tuesday and Thursday and bring it back to school as soon as you can. We will sit with all the other teachers on Friday lunchtime to make sure siblings get appointments close together.
