Y4 week beginning 18.4 16

Date: 17th Apr 2016 @ 9:24am

Hello everyone

we really hope you have thoroughly enjoyed your Spring break especially this last weekend when the weather has been so glorious. I managed to get away for a few days and feel very rested for the last term. We hope you do too as it will be as busy as ever.

Mr. Cole returns this week on Wednesday, I know he is looking forward to teaching you all again. He has planned some very exciting work on WW1 which he will begin this week as well as looking at 2 step maths problems in maths. This is a new target for all of you to read the question carefully, make notes on what it is asking you to do and then explain what you have done and why. Remember we use RUDELY to help us with this. I will be looking at negative numbers with you at the beginning of the week. What is 7 less than 2? Can we do this quickly in our head or do we need to draw a number line to help? What is colder -11 degrees or -4 degrees? Why? How can we show this on a number line? ( or a thermometer)

We have a couple more weeks on the Water Horse which will culminate with us writing our own myth using powerful language. Our books will come in very handy to magpie some words we have pinched from the text. What will happen now that the Water Horse has taken a huge chunk out of the bottom of the fishermans boat? How did he feel when his boat started to sink? We will be writing a recount of this event in four paragraphs using the past progressive eg he was sitting in his boat when all of a sudden...         We also have our mythical creatures art to finish.

At the end of the week it is the Queens 90th birthday celebrations, Mrs. Potter is organising a party in the village hall on Saturday and she would like us all to design a birthday card to commemorate this occasion. Get your thinking hats on on what your card will look like and we will do these in class one afternoon. Will your card have a drawn picture of her, her palaces, corgis, her family, crowns and other jewellery? Have a think and try and make your card unique, there will be prizes for the best entrants from each class. Bunbury will be having their own party to celebrate her birthday on Friday, please come dressed in red, white and blue and crown or hat! Remember Y4 need to supply the jam tarts!

X- Country is next Thursday 28th at the High School 4pm-5pm. EVERYONE is welcome, it would be lovely to have the whole class competing in this great event.

We are all really looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow, remember it is PE first lesson so have your kit ready!
