Y4 week beginning 14.9.15

Date: 13th Sep 2015 @ 10:52am

Hi everyone,

We had a great first whole week teaching you, you are all very motivated, polite and eager to learn. What more can we ask for, long may it continue! Our first display is up outside the office using our creation artwork. It looks very bright and we have already had lots of compliments. Let your parents know where it is so they can look when they are in school.

This week we will be looking at 4-digit numbers, what each digit represents, comparing them using greater than and less than symbols and placing them on a number line. We will then move onto adding and subtracting 2 and 3-digit numbers mentally.

Our Mayan creation stories are nearly completed, using the story plans we devised. Mrs. Sissons is very pleased with the excellent use of descriptive language you have used so far. Once these are completed we will move onto the text "Leon and the Place Between". I think you will love this story, there is so much going on on each page.

Our KiVa lessons start this week and we will be discussing our rights to a safe learning environment.

We will be looking at where the Mayan people settled in our project work using maps and atlases drawing our own and labelling the countries, cities, and oceans. We will discuss why we think they settled there using some sources.

The Mayan masks and Glyphs are coming along very well, we will be continuing with these in art.

Our "Meet the Teachers" meeting for your parents begins at 4.15. If your parents are busy we will give you a sheet of notes to take home the following day with all of the details on it that we discussed. If they have any further questions please ask them to come and see us.

You have all responded well to the new marking scheme and also to writing thoughtful self assessments at the end of each maths and english lesson. I think you realise now writing "I enjoyed it", or "it was easy" is not good enough. We need to use the Learning Goal and the Steps to Success to assess against.

Finally good luck to the Y4 Tag Rugby team who are playing in a competition on Monday evening at the High School. Have fun.

Have an excellent rest of the weekend.

Love Mrs. Waddington and Mrs. Sissons.
