Y4 week beginning 12.9.16

Date: 9th Sep 2016 @ 5:02pm

Both Mrs. Chatfield and I have had a wonderful first week with you all and are very impressed with your kind and caring personalities, manners and eagerness to do the right thing. Please keep this up!!!

This is what we will be doing this week.

We will begin our English lessons using the fantastic book "Leon and the Place Between as our stimulus. When you come into school on Monday the classroom will have been transformed into a circus. What will you see, hear, smell, taste and feel inside. We will use your ideas to write noun phrases which will then be extended. We will also recap on fronted adverbials to try and make our writing much more adventurous. Our spelling lessons have begun. Two groups are looking at suffixes, what we do when we add them to root words and what rules we need to remember. The third group have looked at how we make the "a" sound. Your spelling homework will be linked to the work you have done in your groups.

Place Value will begin on Monday for the week and we will all be looking at number patterns, what each digit represents in a number, counting on and back in jumps of 2, 6, 9, 25 and a 1000 to name a few. Negative numbers will be introduced to all.

The last Christian Values group needs to be completed on Monday afternoon and Mrs. Chatfield will complete the art work on Wednesday work ready to display.

You will receive all homework on a Friday from now on. This will include spelling, a piece of maths related to the topic taught during the week and a piece of writing, grammar or punctuation. We would like the homework books back in school on a Tuesday ready for the spelling lesson. If you can complete all 3 pieces of work by then we would be very grateful as we will have time to mark it but the spelling work MUST be done as this will be marked in the lesson.

Tuesday will see the first swimming lesson, if you have not brought your form back in please do as we can't let you go without permission. Remember to bring your kit with you. You will have a slightly early lunch and leave school at 12.40 to be in time for your lesson at Nantwich Pool.

You have all had your first lesson where the vast majority of the class received their first choice instrument. You learned how to assemble it, make a sound (some are still trying!) and put it away. If your contract is signed by your parents, you will be able to take your instrument home next Friday to practise.

Have a good rest this weekend and be prepared for another very busy and tiring week next week.

Love

Mrs. C and Mrs. W
