Y4 week beginning 10.10.16

Date: 8th Oct 2016 @ 2:49pm

Hello everybody

We hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weekend and Evie you are feeling better!

i have managed to order the Oz DVD so we will be using the first 30 seconds of that to watch circus acts being performed and then write it up in the style of Graham Baker Smith using our writers tool kit we made last week. We will be looking in particular at the writing of paragraphs, what needs to go in each, how they should end and the good use of linking sentences to join them together. Remember how he puts powerful verbs together like twisting  and turning. We will be doing this in six small groups all looking at different acts and then try to put them together before editing and improving our work.

Mrs. Chatfield  introduced written methods of addition last week and we will be looking at subtraction, estimation and how to use the inverse operations to check answers eg 7+?=10 we know ?=3 because 10-7 =3. This is a very simplified version but you will be doing this with 2,3 and 4 digit numbers. From this we will move onto problem solving including one and two step problems where you need to decide which operations and methods you will use.

On Wednesday we would like to do an "art day" so that we can complete our masks and portraits for our front covers of our topic books. Please come in old clothes that you don't mind getting paint and glue on as we will be using Marvin glue and acrylic paint both of which are difficult to get out of clothes. Ben Webster has already researched what features The Maya thought was beautiful, see if you can find some examples so that you make your mask accordingly.

On Thursday it is the chance of Y3 and Y4 to compete in the X-Country event at Tarporley High School between 4pm and 5pm. I am very confident that we can get the highest percentage of runners so please all come as its a great opportunity for you to represent the school. There is a lot of building work going on at the High School so the parking is very limited on site (no parking at the back of the school) Try and share lifts with other families and park outside the school or behind the community centre.

Remember you all have chance to buy some books at the book fair that is open every evening from 3.15 until 4ish. There are some really lovely books. Why don't you go and choose some you would like and you might get the, for Christmas. If we sell a certain amount school will be given some to stock our library and class libraries.

See you all on Monday, please don't forget your homework and make some time to work on your takeaway homework.

Love Mrs. W and Mrs. C x
