Y2 News 5.12.16

Date: 4th Dec 2016 @ 5:00pm

Week Beginning 5th December 2016

Another busy week ahead with Nativity preparations and a visit to the Theatre. Below is the information that went out by email last week regarding Y2 costumes

Y2 Nativity Role
Y2 will be performing `The Sheep Shimmy' as part of the Reception, Y1 and Y2 Nativity. Please could they bring in some plain white or plain dark clothing for their costumes. The dark clothing can be black, navy blue or brown. Any t-shirts/tops with a logo can sometimes be turned inside out.
We will be using face paint. If I don't hear from you I will presume it is ok for your child to have face paint on. Clothes need to be in school by Monday 12th December. Please let me know you need any help with this.

In English we are continuing to use the text ‘The Rainbow Bird’. We are continuing with work on the use of coordination, using the conjunctions of and, but, or and building this into independent creative work.

In Mathematics we are continuing with Measurement learning. In Y2 pupils are taught

  • choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit, using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels
  • compare and order lengths, mass, volume/capacity and record the results using >, < and =

Our handwriting focus is the group of ascender letters, letters with ‘tails’ – f g j p q y

In phonics/spelling the focus is adding the suffixes ing, ed, er and est to words. We continue in all lessons to develop and reinforce the use of different spelling strategies.

In RE our new unit of work is ‘Kingdom of God’ with the concept of Incarnation underpinning the learning. The key questions of the unit are – What does the visit of the Magi tell Christians about Jesus? Why is Jesus considered a King by Christians?

In Science we are continuing to look at Materials. We will be testing the strength of bags made out of different materials.

Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.

Reading Books
The children are welcome to change their reading book as often as they like but I would ask that you sign the reading record book when they have read to you or to themselves at home.
