Y2 News 21.11.16

Date: 20th Nov 2016 @ 5:42pm

Week Beginning 21st November 2016

What an exciting time we had on Friday recording our school CD.  Now full steam ahead with our Nativity preparations.

I will be out of school on Tuesday morning on a Safeguarding Course. Mrs Walker will be in Y2.

In English we have started to look at a new text ‘The Rainbow Bird’. This is an Aboriginal dreamtime folk tale again about Fire.

In Mathematics we are continuing with work on multiplication and division. This will be our focus for the next couple of weeks. In Y2 pupils  are taught to

  • recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers
  • calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division within the multiplication tables and write them using the multiplication (.), division (÷) and equals (=) signs
  • show that multiplication of two numbers can be done in any order (commutative) and division of one number by another cannot
  • solve problems involving multiplication and division, using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, and multiplication and division facts, including problems in contexts.

Our handwriting focus is the r group of letters – r n m h b k p

In phonics/spelling the focus is on the grapheme y used as an ‘I’ sound at the end of words e.g. my fly.  We continue in all lessons to develop and reinforce the use of different spelling strategies.

In RE our unit of work is called Good News. The key questions of the unit are - How does the bible show Jesus living his life as good news to people? How do you know when you feel better? On the outside? On the inside.

In Science we are continuing to look at Materials. We have set up a simple experiment to test steel materials and it is interesting to observe how the materials have started to change after even a week.

Our PE days are now Monday and Wednesday.

Reading Books
The children are welcome to change their reading book as often as they like but I would ask that you sign the reading record book when they have read to you or to themselves at home.
